Our gorgeous fabrics!

Our gorgeous fabrics!

Hello everyone.

I thought it was about time we introduced our fabrics. I had my interest in patchwork fired up when I was 11 years old by my home economics teacher who already saw me as a lost cause gave me the rag bag and suggested I gave it a go. At that time patchwork was primarily the English paper piecing technique. This appealed to me, although I used cornflake boxes for my "papers" and I quickly realised that pattern and colour could be chosen to work together with design to create something pretty awesome.

I think paper piecing is far more enjoyable, though more labour intensive than the modern "jelly roll" approach but great things and be achieved with a rotary cutter, a ruler and an eye for colour. There are also many free patterns and ideas which come up with ingenious cutting techniques.

Both the Batiks and the Fairy Frost, a heavenly creation of fabric, work as collections in their own right. Batiks make moody, intense pieces and the Fairy Frost is drop dead gorgeous for special baby quilts or quilts for Weddings or Wedding Anniversaries as well as making princess dresses for little girls or even bigger girls.

Fairy Frost has a weightiness that is ideal for clothing and its' sugar shimmer catches the light making any moment with it magic.

Kaffe Fassett is one man I look up to. He throws rich spicy colours with glorious patterns, the effect is like colouring book for adults filled in; totally unforgettable, completely absorbing and utterly addictive.
