Books of patterns are not a cheap option but they usually offer a good range of designs and ages to match so their value usually is stretched beyond that of one pattern. They also keep their condition longer than leaflets so they can be salted away for a while until babies and small children return to your fold
Contrary to belief patterns rarely date, only the way they are presented and what appeals now will probably appeal to another generation, unless they are really gimicky...and if the yarn used is a standard one then substitution is quite easy.
