The Clairefontaine Pastelmat Pad No. 7 - Stone Shades by Clairefontaine is a premium surface specially developed for pastel artists, offering exceptional pigment grip and durability.
Pastel adheres beautifully to Pastelmat, allowing artists to build multiple layers without the need for fixative between applications. Colours remain vibrant without becoming saturated or muddy, making it an ideal choice for detailed and highly worked pieces.
The unique surface texture sits between velour and sanded papers — soft to the touch yet slightly abrasive — providing excellent control for blending, layering, and fine detail. Unlike many textured papers, Pastelmat retains its properties even when lightly wetted or rubbed, allowing for underpainting techniques and reworking.
Manufactured at a heavyweight 360gsm, the paper is strong, stable, and resistant to buckling. Each pad contains glassine interleaving sheets to protect finished work from smudging and pigment transfer.
