Description

Natural Wooden 'Dolly' Clothes Pegs | 6pcs | Trimits

These wooden pegs are usually used to 'peg' wet clothes to a washing line to dry however they have found a secondary use in creating little clothes peg dolls.

The history behind this is quite interesting!

In the 17th and 18th centuries, children played with Dutch dolls called "Flanders babies," known in America as peg dolls—though not made from pegs.

In the 19th century, Victorians sometimes turned peg dolls into "pedlar dolls" by adding trinkets. The tradition of using wooden clothes pegs for dolls began during times of hardship. During World War II, with toy production halted, children made toys from household items and found materials, and this craft has carried on to this day, and making these little dolls is quite easy! A lick of paint, a bit of fabric and you've created a lovely little homemade dolly.

You can even add extra pieces if you want to give these dolls a bit more detail, use some string to make arms, use wool and fibres for hair, or paint the end of the pegs to add some shoes, there are so many ways to make a customise these little peg dolls!

An easy and fun craft for anyone to try!
