WYS Elements DK : Sustainable Knitting

WYS Elements DK : Sustainable Knitting

It's now more important than ever to look after our planet and there are lots of little adjustments that we make every day in order to be more eco conscious; we sort waste into recycling bins and try to cut down on single use plastic, but are we bringing that same level of awareness to our hobbies. Do we know what our craft materials are made of or what kind of impact the production has on the environment? It can be difficult to find the answers to these questions, especially when looking for a brand that offers a sustainable option, and that's where West Yorkshire Spinners are taking a step in the right direction.

'Elements' DK is a new release from WYS that is composed of 60% Lyocell, which is which is a fibre made from wood pulp. It's considered to be an innovative step in the production of sustainable and regenerative textiles, similar to Bamboo sourced fibres. Not only that, but the remaining 40% of the yarn is made up of Falkland Islands wool which gives it a soft cosy feel that's comfortable against the skin. Another plus is that -as the name of the company suggests- this yarn is made in Yorkshire, which greatly cuts down on transport costs leading to a smaller carbon footprint as well. So, if you're looking for a more planet friendly option when it comes to your next knitting or crochet project, 'Elements' is the way to go!

We're delighted to see that our favourite companies and suppliers are continuing down the eco path and can't wait to see what further innovation is to come in the future.
